I am a Journalism major in college, but in the past year, I really haven’t taken it that seriously. In fact, I have actually loathed it at times because I was pursuing an acting career.
Then, I woke up the first day of my summer vacation and my desire to be an actor had left me, so I started seeking Christ on what to do with my life now. Over the summer, he has transformed me to want to be a servant more and he has also put a drive for ministry in me that I should have had, but didn’t.
A couple weeks ago, I started praying for a way to use journalism for ministry. Now that I was actually interested in it again, I wanted God to use it to glorify him.
A few days ago, the news director for Surf KY News Group, a Kentucky news organization that has readership worldwide, contacted me on Facebook. There is a base for Surf KY in my hometown, so I am Facebook friends with the news director. He told me that he really liked the Christian posts that I put on Facebook rather frequently and was wondering if I would be interested in writing a weekly column about my faith.
This was exactly what I had been praying for. I was so thankful that God had provided a way for me to use journalism and get the Gospel out to a worldwide audience. I will also start being a freelance reporter in Bowling Green, KY when I get back to school for Surf KY, pending I have time around my classes and ministry activities. I have multiple mission trips planned over the course of the next year as well as a study abroad trip to Rome, so that is definitely a good way to store of money for it.
I am so thankful for God granting me this opportunity to serve him. I can’t wait to see what he does with this. The link below is to my first column. New columns come out every Sunday and I will link them on here for you to read. Thanks for the continued readership and may God bless you all.
Nice job Aaron. I enjoyed your first writing on the Trunk. The more mature you become as a Christian the deeper the tap root will be and the more earnestly it will seek the Living Water to sustain your “tree” and feed the branches. I am proud of you.
awesome, glad to hear it, u will do great things for God.
